Pests and diseases threaten rice crop in Dong Nai

(ĐN)- Farmers in Dong Nai province are facing an epidemic caused by the leaf-folding moth. In addition, rice blast disease has also affected the summer-autumn rice crop in the province. More than 370 hectares of the summer-autumn rice crop in the province have been have been infested by insects and diseases, an increase of nearly 200 hectares when compared to late May 2011, reported the Provincial Plant Protection Department. Heavy rains breed the development of pests and deseases, which negatively affects rice fields.

The three hardest hit districts were Tan Phu, Dinh Quan and Cam My.

 

As known, nearly 22,000 hectares of rice have been planted for the summer-autumn crop 2011 in Dong Nai province. The Provincial Plant Protection Department has urged local farmers to spray chemicals on affected rice fields to prevent the spreading of insects and diseases.
