Farmers net VND 50 million in profit from a hectare of corn

(ĐN)- Farmers in Dong Nai province cultivated nearly 24,600 hectares for the 2010-2011 winter-spring crop with an average yield of over 7 tonnes per hectare.

(ĐN)- Farmers in Dong Nai province cultivated nearly 24,600 hectares for the 2010-2011 winter-spring crop with an average yield of over 7 tonnes per hectare. Due to high corn price, local farmers have expanded the area under corn cultivation. Most of farmers in the province cultivated high-yield corn varieties known as G49, NK 67, C919…for the winter-spring crop. The largest cultivation areas in the province included the four districts of Cam My, Xuan Loc, Trang Bom and Tan Phu.

Presently, the corn prices in the province stay between VND 7,200 and VND 7,300 a kilogram, up VND 400- VND 500 when compared to the beginning of May 2011. Especially, some farmers in the province achieved a yield of over 10 tonnes per hectare and they can get a profit of over VND 50 million per hectare after the production cost is deducted.
