(ĐN)- Nearly 7,000 hectares of cashew trees in Dong Nai province have been damaged by insects and diseases, an increase of nearly 2,000 hectares when compared to the middle of February 2011, according to the Provincial Plant Protection Department.

The sunny days and cool nights characteristic of the province coupled with out of season rains in March have created conditions conducive to disease and insect outbreaks on cashew trees. The four districts of Xuan Loc, Vinh Cuu, Thong Nhat and Dinh Quan were the hardest hit.

The Provincial Plant Protection Department has urged local farmers to spray chemicals on affected cashew trees to prevent the spreading of insects and diseases.
