(ĐN)- The Biogas Programme for Animal Husbandry Sector started in 2003 under the cooperation between the Vietnamese and Netherlands governments. It was implemented by the Department of Animal Husbandry of Viet Nam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with technical assistance from the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV). The programme has helped boost economic development, save energy and reduce environmentally toxic gases, improve the living environment, generate jobs and alleviate rural poverty. The programme will end by late 2011.
Since 2003 until now, nearly 3,400 domestic biogas plants have been constructed in Dong Nai province. In 2010 alone, 300 new biogas plants. each worth VND 1.2 million, were built in rural areas of Dong Nai, according to Dong Nai province’s Agriculture Promotion Centre. Local authorities said that about 1,000 additional biogas plants are expected to be built in Dong Nai this year.
