(ĐN)- The area under corn cultivation in Dong Nai province will expand to nearly 54,000 hectares for the 2011 crop year, an increase of about 5,000 hectares from the previous year, according to the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The increase in the area under corn cultivation in the province is due to high corn price. Many rice farmers have shifted to corn cultivation because of its high enonomic value and tolerance to water deficit conditions. The localities with the largest areas under corn for the 2011 crop year are districts of Dinh Quan, Tan Phu, Cam My, Xuan Loc and Trang Bom.
