(ĐN)- Dong Nai’s corn growers said that they are harvesting their winter-spring crop. Local farmers cultivated more than 8,000 hectares of corn for the 2009-2010 winter-spring crop and they harvested a bumper winter-spring crop with the yield of about 7.5 tonnes per hectare on average.
The corn price presently stays between VND 4,800 and VND 5,000 a kilogram. With this price, local farmers can get a profit of about VND 20 million every hectare of corn after the production cost is deducted. Especially, some farmers in districts of Cam My, Tan Phu and Xuan Loc achieved a yield of 10 tonnes per hectare and they can get a profit of over VND 30 million after the production cost is deducted. The localities with the largest areas under corn in this year’s winter-spring rice crop are districts of Cam My, Xuan loc, Dinh Quan and Tan Phu.
It is expected that nearly 25,000 hectares of corn will be planted in Dong Nai for the 2009-2010 summer-autumn crop.
