According to reports of departments and agencies, the province’s socio-economic situation was stable before, during and after the Tet holidays and the local police force undertook the tasks for maintenance of security and social order to ensure every family in the province enjoyed a happy Tet. In addition, commodities for the Tet holiday were abundant in terms of quantity, variety and quality and the province has focused on controlling prices and stabilising the market. Distribution across the province has run smoothly, fully meeting demand. Services, including travel and tourism, were also well prepared for people to enjoy recreational activities and get about during the traditional festival.
The supermarkets stored a large volume of products worth VND150 billion. In certain supermarkets, products such as sugar, cooking oil, rice… have been offered at prices 10-20 percent lower than the market’s average level. Bus fares have remained stable.
According to report from the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the number of tourists visiting the province decreased about 35% percent in the 2009 Lunar New Year from the same period of 2008 due to economic difficulties. Dong Nai’s tourist areas welcomed more than 37,000 visitors during the Tet holidays, reached a total turnover of about VND3.6 billion.
Addressing at the meeting, Chairman Vo Van Mot praised the efforts of local agencies in helping the people welcome the Tet Holiday jubilantly, safely and economically. The Chairman urged the Provincial Department of Planning and Investment to take effective measures stimulate investment as well as to speed up the disbursement of loans and the provincial budget funding to promote the construction of key projects in the province. He also asked the State Bank branches in the province to take measures to mobilize capital and give loans effectively.
