(ĐN)- Cash Crops Development Project for period 2008-2010 is officially started today, September 18, 20098 in Long Thanh District. Under the project, durian and pomelo become major cash crops of the district. Durian and pomelo will be sampled in an area of 47 hectares in the district. Accordingly, it is planned to bring 31 hectares particularly in Long Thanh area under pomelo and 16 hectares under durian. This pilot will be funded by the provincial budget with an amount of around VND 300 million.
In Long Thanh district, 350 hectares are under durian cultivation, giving an average yield of 7 tonnes per hectare and 194 hectares are planted with pomelo with a yield of 11 tonnes per hectare.
In the coming time, Long Thanh district will develop areas specializing in the cultivation of pomelo and durian, eyeing not only export markets but also local consumers.
