(ĐN)- According to information from the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, for the current season, the area under cassava cultivation in Dong Nai increased by roughly 1000 hectares (to 2413 hectares) compared to the last season. The largest growing and production areas in the province are Dinh Quan, Xuan Loc and Trang Bom districts. Local farmers are expanding the area under cassava cultivation because the price of the sale of fresh cassava at the garden is VND 1,500 per kilo and they can earn a profit of VND15-20 million per hectare from cassava cultivation. Another reason is that cassava cultivation requires very little effort and is able to generate income. However, pursuant to the recommendation of agricultural engineers, cassava cultivation for three or four consecutive seasons can degrade the soil resulting low yield. Hence, farmers need fertilize the soil if they want to cultivate another trees.
