* Changes day after day

Bau Tram Village called Bau Can due to its poverty status. Long Khanh became a townlet while Bau Tram was a poor village. Now, Bau Tram village becomes rich with many villas built around the village.

Vice Chairman of Bau Tram Village’s People’s Committee La Van Hung said the Village was established in early 2004 and consisted of 2 hamlets namely Bau Tram and Bau Sam. At that time, there were 925 households out of which 338 households were living in poverty. The majority of the population in the village earned their living by agricultural activities. Bau Tram village has now 950 households with population of over 5,000 people, one third of whom are Cho Ro ethnic minority group. In the past years,  there were different reasons caused of low agriculture yield in the village such as a lack of experience in agricultural production and impoverished soil conditions. Moreover, the agricultural products had to be sold at very low prices due to poor transportation infrastructure and lack of means of transport that have caused poverty for the local people. Then, local authority has organised training courses for local farmers that helped them in applying technology to agricultural production. Besides, local farmers have been encouraged to promote a shift towards intensive cultivation. It was reported by farmers that now the paddy yield increased up to 55-60 ton per hectare from 40 ton per hectare in past years. In addition, the high yields achieved today in some fruit and vegetable crops thanks to new technologies utilised by local farmers and the area in fruits and vegetables has increased. Due to efforts made during the past years, living standards of the Bau Tram people have improved markedly.

Vice Chairman Hung said happily that the face of the village is changing with a number of infrastructural projects to be nearly completed and with many business establishments flourishing. He added industrial groups have been gradually established in the village and all these features ensure a prospective future for local people in the context of industrialisation and modernisation.
