Malaysian firm opens second furniture plant in Dong Nai

Malaysian-based Scansia Pacific on Tuesday opened a furniture factory in the Vinatex Tan Tao Industrial Park, Nhon Trach District, in the southern province of Dong Nai.

The factory is located on 175,000sq.m with total investment of US$20 million. This is the company’s second wooden furniture factory in Viet Nam.

 

The first phase of operation would see 100-120 containers of furniture made monthly, with a total workforce of 3,000 workers by the end of the third phase.

 

The factory will produce outdoor wood furniture, such as tables and chairs, and indoor furniture, including wardrobes and beds.

 

Scansia Pacific aims to achieve turnover of $60 million by 2010.

 

The company imports machinery from Italy, Germany and Taiwan to make its furniture and exports 150 containers of furniture each month to Germany, UK, France, and the US, with a total turnover of $25 million.

 

It uses Brazilian wood approved by the Forest Stewardship Council.

 

The Scansia Pacific manufacturing group opened its first production line in Malaysia 20 years ago, making cane and rattan furniture. The company owns four companies and seven factories in Viet Nam, making indoor and outdoor wood furniture.

 

The wooden furniture and handicraft industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Viet Nam.

 

For the first six months of this year, the industry gained export turnover of $1.3 billion and expects to reach $2.6 billion for the entire year. Last year, the industry achieved $1.94 billion in export turnover.
