Dong Nai: An attractive destination for Asean investors

By the end of June this year, Dong Nai province was home to 825 valid FDI projects by investors from 32 countries and territories around the world with a total registered capital of US$9.581 billion. In which, FDI from Asean countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei reached over US$2 billion, accounting for more than 20% of total FDI.

By the end of March 2007, Malaysia had the greatest number of projects with 29 worth US$884 million, followed by Thailand with 27 projects at more than US$600 million, Singapore with 20 projects at more than US$177 million, Philippines with 2 projects at US$39.5 million, Brunei with 7 projects at US$24.5 million and Indonesia with 1 project at US$7.7 million.

CP Vietnam Livestock Co., Ltd. supplies the consumers with fresh and safe products

Investors from Malaysia took the lead in terms of investment capital and the number of investment project. They included Hualon with a total registered capital of over US$447 million, E-Hsin (US$93.5 million), Interfood (US$30 million), Ojitex (US$29.3 million) and others. Thai investors have come to Dong Nai in the early 90s and lot of Thai companies have gained success. CP Vietnam Livestock Co. is a typical example. The company started production in 1993. It has well positioned itself and has since 1993 almost continuously increased its investment. As a food producer, CP Vietnam Livestock Co., Ltd. realizes its responsibility to supply the consumers with fresh and safe products. Until now, CP has invested a total of more than US$328 million in Dong Nai. Its turnover in 2006 reached US$300 million. Another example is Amata power plant with capacity of 120MW, a joint venture between Vietnam and Thailand, that has invested capital of US$120 million. In the past ten years, Singapore investors also poured a large amount of capital into the province with the projects of Loteco IP, Nippon Paint, Visy Vietnam, etc. Besides, Brunei enterprises like Toan Nghiep Co with invested capital of US$12 million and Roam Riva Chiung Co.(US$7 million) have become strategic investors in Dong Nai province.
