Zamil Steel Viet Nam has signed a 1.5 million USD contract to supply Malaysia’s Domain Resources with a pre-fabricated steel frame.

The frame will be used in the construction of a 1,000-tonne hangar for Sepang Aircraft Engineering at the KL International Airport, Malaysia.

The hangar’s roof will span 16,000 sq.m, while the portal frame will have a 90m clear span, the largest clear span designed by Zamil to date.

Sepang Aircraft Engineering specialises in providing technical design services and full maintenance for aircraft. It is planning to maintain and repair about 150 planes for budget carrier AirAsia in the new hangar.

Last year, Zamil supplied steel structures for a Malaysian industrial park run by Cresendo Corp.

Established in 1997, Zamil Steel Viet Nam is a joint venture between Saudi Arabia’s Zamil Steel Industries and Mitsui of Japan. Its first pre-engineered steel building manufacturing facility was built at Ha Noi’s outskirt Noi Bai industrial zone in 1999. The company has spent over 30 million USD on expanding the plant, raising its monthly capacity to 4,500 tonnes.

Zamil is building its second plant in southern Dong Nai province’s Amata industrial zone. The new factory, capable of turning out 5,000 tonnes of products per month, will be ready for production by the end of 2007.
