The Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) officially launched a branch in San Francisco early this month.

"The opening of a branch in the United States, as well as its participation in some ventures in Asia, is part of VNPTs efforts to expand its operation in the global market," VNPT Vice General Director Lam Hoang Vinh said at the opening ceremony in San Francisco on May 2.

The branch will focus on trade and investment promotion activities and mapping out plans for expanding VNPT services in the US and its neighbouring markets, he added.

Mark Chester, Director of San Francisco Mayors Office of International Trade and Commerce, said the municipal authorities would facilitate VNPTs operations as well as those of other Vietnamese businesses.

VNPT was the second major Vietnamese business to open a branch in the US after Vietnam Airlines.

The opening ceremony was attended by local government officials and representatives from San Francisco, the US-Viet Nam Business Association and various US companies, including AT&T, Veziron, Lockheed Martin, Cisco, Motorola, White & Case and Merrill Lynch.
