Statistics show that by the end of 2006, Long Khanh town had 688 enterprises operating in the fields of industry and small scale industry, including 3 state-owned companies, 4 foreign invested companies, 17 privately owned companies and limited liability companies and 334 private households. These enterprises have employed nearly 7,000 laborers. There are a large number of potential industries, accounting for a major share of economic activities in Long Khanh such as garments, leather, mechanics, building materials and so on. These industries have been growing strongly thanks to stable consumption markets. Those industries have become major forces for Long Khanh’s economic development, creating jobs, raising income and shifting the economic structure towards industrialization, and modernization.

Secretary of the town’s Party Committee Le Thi Nhu Lan said she is happy to tell that Long Khanh witnessed steady growth in industrial production in 2006 while, at the same time, it has made plans to build five industrial zones with a total area of over 230 ha. Currently, 3 out of the planned industrial zones are under construction with total area of about 150 ha including  Suoi Tre I, Suoi Tre II and Bao Vinh IZs. Under the project approved by the Prime Minister in the third quarter of 2006, the town is planning to develop a concentrated industrial zone covering 300 ha. In planning construction projects, priority will be given to the central market, supermarkets and commercial centers in order to match the economic growth.

Compared with other localities in Dong Nai province, though Long Khanh’s industrial development is at lower level, the achievements recorded by the Party Organisation and people in Long Khanh in recent years have laid a solid foundation for the town’s future growth. In the coming years, Long Khanh will concentrate investments in developing industries with advantages such as agricultural and food processing, mechanics, garments, footwear, beverage etc. Besides, the town will also focus on developing key industries like water, power and telecommunications. Especially, the local government will facilitate and encourage projects which use less energy and help protect the environment in order to achieve the target of sustainable growth whilst satisfying environmental concerns.

In the other hand, Long Khanh has great potentials for agricultural development. Thus, the town places priority on greater investment in agricultural production. Accordingly, strong priority is given to encourage activities of agricultural encouragement and special emphasis is placed on the application of advanced technologies in agricultural production through the use of new high yield seeds and the purchase of high-quality breeding animals. Part of the strategy the town is pursuing now is to develop more industries to create new jobs, increase incomes for its growing workforce in order to raise living standards of its people.
