Viet Nam’
s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) showed its determination to promote national development and its responsibility for contributing to development of the world, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
The PM made the remark at a reception for WTO General Director Pascal Lamy in Ha Noi on Nov. 15.
PM Dung thanked the WTO General Director for his great assistance to Viet Nam in successfully conducting bilateral and multilateral negotiations to become the 150th member of the global trade body.
The Vietnamese Government would submit the Protocol on Viet Nam’s WTO admission to the National Assembly for approval at its working session at the end of November, he said.
The government leader stressed that as a new WTO member and a developing country, Viet Nam needed support from international friends, including the WTO, in its world economic integration process.
The PM also revealed that Viet Nam would call on leaders of APEC member economies at their upcoming meeting in Ha Noi to resume the Doha negotiation round for promotion of world trade liberalisation and common sustainable development.
For his part, Lamy said he was pleased with Viet Nams admission to the WTO and acknowledged the nations great efforts in negotiations.
The WTO chief also spoke highly of Viet Nam‘s economic growth and affirmed his willingness to help the country implement WTO commitments and work out a phased roadmap for global economic integration.
