(ĐN)- Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Ao Van Thinh recently chaired a meeting about strategic orientations for the development of animal and plant husbandry in Dong Nai in the period 2006-2010.
According to the draft of the Dong Nai Department for Agriculture and Rural Development, major plants, which are of great economic value, include flowering plants and vegetables in typical short-day plants and cashew and pepper in long-term industrial crops. For industrial crops, investments will be made for increasing the production of the crops. Strategies that increase not only productivity but that raise the value of agricultural products need to be implemented. By 2010, the total area of cultivation of cashew and pepper will be around 35,000 hectares and 7,500 hectares respectively. Fruit trees include grapefruit, durian, custard-apple, mango, rambutan and mandarin orange. For animal husbandry, the strategy will focus on investing and developing herds of meat and milk cows, meat pigs as well as raising both meat and egg chickens. Furthermore, the province will develop aquaculture sector in sustainable manner and develop plans to ensure environmental protection.
Vice Chairman Ao Van Thinh stressed that the strategy for the development of animal and plant husbandry in Dong Nai needs to meet the future demands of the market. He pointed out the need for the province to identify agricultural products that will be sold in the domestic market and be exported to foreign markets in order to make investment programmes efficient. He also noted that the need for the province develop agricultural production suited to a new industrial structure and the environment.
