(ĐN) – The Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee just held a meeting with the aim of evaluating the province’s service sector during the past 12 years (1992-2004). The meeting was attended by Provincial Public Relations Director Bui Ngoc Thanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee Dang Thi Kim Nguyen, Central Economic Board official Tran Trac and other leaders.
During the past 12 years, Dong Nai’s service sector has performed the function of supplying materials for production and selling products. Especially, some form of services has developed strongly in the past time such as trade, hotels, restaurants, tourism, transport and communications, financial and professional services etc.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Bui Ngoc Thanh praised efforts of Dong Nai’s service sector to expand its sector over the past years in order to increase employment, improve industrial structure. By 2004, 22.5 percent of Dong Nais labor force worked in the service sector. However, the development of the service sector has not matched the growth of the provincial economy leading to a fairly low proportion of service output value to GDP.
Dong Nai will mobilize all resources available to speed up the development of the service sector, increase its proportion in the provincial economy. Faster growth in the service sector will ensure a sound and fast growth of the provincial economy that helps integrate the province deeply into the international trading system. Dong Nai sets out targets that the province has to meet in the period 2006-2010. The province’s service sector will contribute 34 percent to Dong Nais gross domestic product (GDP) in 2010. Retail sales will reach the targeted annual growth rate of 20 per cent on average through 2006 to 2010. Meanwhile, Dong Nai also set a total export turnover target of a year- on-year increase of 20-22 percent for the period 2006-2010.
