The co-operation between the National Centre for Agricultural Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and foreign governments and agencies has brought about good results through many effective projects in agricultural development.

The co-operation between the National Centre for Agricultural Development under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and foreign governments and agencies has brought about good results through many effective projects in agricultural development.

A project to assist animal husbandry with financial assistance from the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) has opened 50 training courses for teachers and farmers as well as provided veterinary equipment for three northern provinces .

An on-going US$960,000 project to prevent bird flu in 2004 and 2005 has provided equipment and chemicals for many localities as well as guidelines to help farmers cope with the epidemic.

The centre now is carrying out another project with a loan of $60mil provided by the Asian Development Bank for scientific research and agricultural development for two years (2005-2006).

For agricultural development, 20 provinces and cities have been chosen for setting up advisory councils for agricultural development. Twenty more are still to be selected for the project.

In addition, many other co-operation programmes with the Japanese and Israeli governments, the British American Tobacco Company and international organisations have also provided technical training for farmers and agricultural workers at all levels.

Dr Tong Khiem, the centre's director, said his centre would further step up international co-operation for agricultural development, especially in training and improving the capacity of the agricultural development system from the central to local levels.
