Dong Nai announces preliminary results of 2026 Economic Census

On August 7, Nguyen Kim Long, Member of the Dong Nai City Party Committee (CPC)’s Standing Board, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, and Head of the Steering Committee for the 2026 Economic Census (referred to as the Steering Committee), chaired a conference to review and announce the preliminary results of the 2026 Economic Census in the city.

According to the Steering Committee, the economic census is a national statistical survey conducted every five years to collect comprehensive information on economic units, supporting the assessment of the current situation and socio-economic development trends and building a statistical database.

Preliminary results indicate that the city has over 1.4 million workers employed in more than 264,400 operating units. Of these, more than 262,000 are economic units, accounting for over 99% of the total surveyed units and employing 98.7% of the total workforce. Businesses number more than 34,800, accounting for only about 13% of the total units but employing over 1 million workers, equivalent to 72% of the total workforce. Meanwhile, there are more than 226,300 individual business establishments, accounting for over 85% of the total surveyed units and employing nearly 380,000 workers.

By economic sector, the service sector has the largest number of units, with 232,600, representing nearly 88% of the total. The industry and construction sector has 30,900 units, while the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector has 854 units. However, the industry and construction sector remains the largest employer, with more than 882,000 workers, accounting for nearly 60% of the total workforce of the surveyed units.

The survey results also show that the business sector continues to play a pivotal role in the city's economy. In 2025, the sector's net revenue reached approximately VND2.28 quadrillion, up 10.8% from 2024 and 59% from 2020. Among these, foreign invested enterprises made the largest contribution, with revenue exceeding VND1.1 quadrillion.

According to the Steering Committee, the economic census was completed on schedule. The city collected information from more than 280,000 units, reaching 100% of the adjusted plan. At the same time, the city made coordinated use of information technology, electronic questionnaires, Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) software, Webform, and monitoring systems to improve data quality.

The preliminary results of the 2026 Economic Census serve as a basis for assessing the scale and structure of the economy, compiling statistical indicators, updating the database, and formulating socio-economic development policies for the city in the coming period. The official results are expected to be announced in January 2027.

At the conference, representatives of several local statistical offices presented papers on the organization and implementation of the economic census in the wards and communes, as well as difficulties, obstacles, and experiences. The conference also commended collectives and individuals who provided direct guidance and advisory support and recorded outstanding achievements in implementing the 2026 Economic Census.

Speaking at the conference, Nguyen Kim Long, Member of the CPC’s Standing Board and Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, acknowledged and commended the efforts and sense of responsibility of steering committees at all levels, the statistics sector, departments, branches, localities, and the forces involved, which contributed to completing the 2026 Economic Census on schedule and ensuring its quality.

The leader of the City People's Committee requested that the Dong Nai Statistics Office continue coordinating with the National Statistics Office to review, complete, and clean the data and proactively analyze and utilize the survey results to serve leadership and management tasks. At the same time, departments, agencies, and the People's Committees of communes and wards were requested to effectively use statistical data sources in formulating policies, planning, and socio-economic development plans and to regularly update changes in economic units to create conditions for the sector to perform well in future surveys.

With the results achieved from the 2026 Economic Census, along with a spirit of innovation, responsibility, and high determination, the city will continue to effectively exploit and use the survey data in management and administration and build development mechanisms and policies based on scientific foundations that are closely aligned with reality, contributing to the successful implementation of socio-economic development goals in the coming period," emphasized Nguyen Kim Long, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee.
