Dong Nai accelerates resettlement for major projects

Dong Nai City is accelerating site clearance and infrastructure development at resettlement areas to ensure stable housing for residents.

The Tan Mai – Thong Nhat resettlement area now has sufficient cleared land to complete infrastructure construction.

With a series of key works and projects already underway, completing resettlement areas will help remove bottlenecks in site clearance.

Accelerating construction progress

In April 2026, the family of Nguyen Thi Nguyet in Tam Hiep Ward completed the handover of their land for the Cai River Riverside Road Project, one of Dong Nai's key projects. Following the handover, Nguyet's family was allocated a plot in the Tan Mai – Thong Nhat resettlement area. However, as site clearance and infrastructure construction had yet to be completed, her family had to rent a temporary home while waiting for the resettlement land to be handed over.

In early August 2026, upon learning that Tam Hiep Ward had completed the site handover for infrastructure construction at the Tan Mai – Thong Nhat resettlement area, Nguyet expressed her delight and hope that infrastructure construction would soon be completed so that the land could be handed over to her family. "The State provides a temporary housing allowance, but I still want to receive the resettlement land soon so I can build a house and stabilize my new life," said Nguyet.

In 2025, construction began on resettlement areas in Tam Phuoc and Phuoc Tan wards to provide housing for households affected by the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway Project and several other key projects.

According to Huynh Tan Loc, Deputy Director of the Dong Nai Land Fund Development Center, construction of the resettlement area project in Tam Phuoc Ward is being accelerated. About 600 plots are expected to be handed over before September 30, 2026, while about 1,000 plots are expected to be handed over before December 31, 2026. This will contribute to meeting the resettlement needs of residents affected by the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway Project, as well as other key works and projects currently being implemented or scheduled for implementation in Dong Nai City.

To implement the Gia Nghia – Chon Thanh Expressway Project passing through the city, Dong Nai must carry out site clearance over more than 1,000 hectares, affecting more than 2,100 households and organizations. Authorities have begun construction of six resettlement areas to accommodate eligible households.

According to the Dong Nai City Construction Investment Project Management Board, construction has been completed at four of the six resettlement areas serving the project. Meanwhile, the remaining two have reached 45-70% of their contracted volumes.

Removing bottlenecks in site clearance

Nguyen Xuan Thanh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Tam Hiep Ward, said that many important projects are being implemented in the ward, with resettlement being the most difficult issue in site clearance. "When meeting with and mobilizing residents to hand over land, their biggest concern is how they will be resettled," said Thanh.

According to Plan No. 118/KH-UBND dated October 3, 2025, issued by the People's Committee of Dong Nai Province (now Dong Nai City), during the 2025-2030 period, the city will invest in the construction of 89 resettlement area projects to create a land fund for resettlement to serve project implementation.

Therefore, according to Thanh, completing the land handover for the construction of resettlement areas, including the Tan Mai – Thong Nhat resettlement area, is of great significance. The ward hopes that, after receiving the land, the investor will accelerate infrastructure construction so that plots can soon be handed over to residents to build houses and stabilize their lives.

In early August 2026, construction also began on the Dau Giay resettlement area in Dau Giay Ward. Covering nearly 46 hectares, the project is being implemented by the Dong Nai Land Fund Development Center. The project is intended to provide resettlement for households affected by the implementation of the city's key projects and nationally important projects, particularly those passing through Dau Giay Ward and neighboring communes and wards.

In practice, proactively developing resettlement areas at an early stage is a crucial factor in accelerating site clearance for projects, particularly key ones. In recent times, land handover for many projects has progressed slowly despite residents' support for the project policy due to a lack of resettlement areas to provide housing for them.

According to Member of the Dong Nai City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Ho Van Ha, the city's demand for resettlement is very high as a series of projects are already underway. Therefore, progress on resettlement area projects must be accelerated. To accelerate site clearance for project construction, resettlement land must be readily available.
