Helping farmers master cultivation techniques

As market requirements become increasingly stringent, equipping farmers with knowledge and technical skills is no longer simply a support activity but an essential requirement.

From hands-on training in orchards to guidance on establishing planting area codes and implementing safe production practices, many farmers have gradually changed their production mindset and improved production efficiency.

Farmers gain access to cultivation techniques

In early July 2026, the meeting hall of the Dau Giay Ward People's Committee was packed with durian farmers attending a training session on post-harvest tree care. The lively exchanges reflected farmers' growing demand for access to cultivation techniques.

Nguyen Van Thang of Dau Giay Ward said that for many years, he had tended his orchard mainly on the basis of experience accumulated through farming. However, after attending the training session, he realized that there were many techniques he had either never known about or had not applied correctly.

"Through direct instruction, I learned many techniques that I had not been applying correctly. I can now immediately apply them in my orchard so the trees can recover more effectively," said Thang.

According to Nguyen Xuan Thoi, Chairman of the Dau Giay Ward Farmers' Union, the union has regularly coordinated with businesses to organize training sessions on post-harvest care for durian and avocado trees, as well as other advanced cultivation techniques. The sessions not only provide guidance on crop care but also encourage farmers to switch to organic fertilizers and biological products to reduce chemical use, protect the environment, and improve the quality of agricultural products.

Similarly, many other localities are stepping up efforts to transfer scientific and technical knowledge to farmers. Hoang Thien, Vice Chairman of the Phu Lam Commune Farmers' Union, said the market is placing increasing emphasis on product quality. To meet this demand, the locality has coordinated with experts to organize numerous training sessions on the use of organic fertilizers and biological plant protection products. Farmers are also instructed on how to identify pests and diseases and use the right products at the right time to reduce costs and improve production efficiency.

According to Thien, the locality will continue organizing training on developing cooperatives, production linkage chains, and obtaining planting area codes. These practical topics will help farmers gradually adopt modern production methods that meet export market requirements.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Ly Thanh Tam, Chairman of the An Loc Ward Farmers' Union, said that the union recently coordinated with businesses to organize two science and technology training sessions for nearly 1,000 officials and union members. It also arranged study tours of effective production models and coordinated short-term vocational training courses, encouraging members to confidently apply technical advances to improve the economic efficiency of their households.

Improving quality through technology transfer

According to Nguyen Van Giang, Vice Chairman in charge of the Dong Nai City Farmers' Union, improving farmers' professional qualifications and technical knowledge in agricultural production has consistently been identified as one of the union's key tasks in developing a modern and sustainable agricultural sector. During the first six months of the year, the City Farmers' Union organized nearly 200 training sessions with nearly 10,000 participants and supported cooperatives in developing production models that comply with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.

Beyond classroom-based training, many farmers' science and technology clubs have been established, providing forums for members to exchange practical experience, introduce initiatives and effective production models, and jointly address challenges encountered during the production process.

Alongside the Farmers' Union, the Dong Nai City Cooperative Alliance has actively supported cooperatives in applying science and technology, promoting digital transformation, and improving management capacity. The alliance has incorporated science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation into its annual work program. It also regularly coordinates with departments, sectors, localities, and central agencies to conduct outreach activities, organize training programs, and introduce production models that apply new technologies.

Through its advisory activities, the City Cooperative Alliance also encourages member units to actively innovate technologies, adopt appropriate mechanization and automation, and develop raw material production areas that meet quality, food safety, and traceability standards. These efforts are regarded as the foundation for improving labor productivity, enhancing agricultural product quality, and strengthening market competitiveness.

In the first six months of 2026, the Farmers' Unions of communes and wards organized nearly 200 technology-transfer training sessions, drawing nearly 10,000 members. They also held about 160 thematic seminars on pest and disease control, the use of fertilizers and plant protection products, and crop care techniques.
