Great potential for engineered wood in construction

On the morning of May 19, the Dong Nai Wood and Handicraft Association (DOWA), in coordination with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO), organized a consultation seminar titled "Assessment of the potential and opportunities for developing the market for engineered wood materials in construction." The seminar was conducted in a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person and online participation by association members and wood manufacturing enterprises across the city.

At the seminar, experts discussed global market trends and the development potential of engineered wood in construction, assessed Vietnam’s supply capacity, examined the roles of standards, certifications, and legal frameworks in market development, and offered strategic orientations and recommendations to advance the use of engineered wood in Vietnam’s construction sector.

According to experts, as the global community places greater emphasis on green construction solutions, carbon emission reduction, and sustainable development, engineered wood is emerging as a strategic material for the global construction industry. In addition to meeting requirements for structural integrity, aesthetics, and construction efficiency, engineered wood is creating new opportunities for Vietnam’s wood processing industry to integrate more deeply into global value chains.

Vietnam has become one of the world’s leading wood exporters; however, there remains considerable growth potential for engineered wood products. This occasion is an important time to gain a deeper understanding of market potential, development trends, and opportunities to expand the application of engineered wood in the construction sector.

The contributions and opinions presented at the seminar will serve as a basis for relevant agencies to finalize the report titled "Assessment of the potential and opportunities for developing the market for engineered wood materials in construction," thereby providing recommendations to improve the strategic orientation and development roadmap for engineered wood in Vietnam’s construction sector in the coming phase.
