Taking good care of revolutionary contributors for a joyful Tet holiday

22:40, 29/01/2026

With the motto of “leaving no policy beneficiary family or revolutionary contributors without Tet,” Dong Nai province is implementing many practical activities, such as visits and gift-giving, to ensure that all policy beneficiary families and people with meritorious services can enjoy a warm and fulfilling Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday. These efforts reflect the Vietnamese people’s traditions of “Remembering the source when drinking water”,  “When eating the fruit, remember who planted the tree”.

Leaving no one behind

Nguyen Thi Mui, a Vietnamese Heroic Mother born in 1922 and residing in Tam Hiep Ward, is one of the 24 Heroic Mothers still living in Dong Nai. During the visit to her home, listening to stories of her husband, martyr Nguyen Van Dao, and her two sons, martyrs Nguyen Van Den and Nguyen Van Giang, one truly understands the pain she endured for national independence.

At over 100 years old, Vietnamese Heroic Mother Nguyen Thi Mui inevitably experiences moments of forgetfulness, but she still clearly remembers the sacrifices of her husband and her sons. Her husband, martyr Nguyen Van Dao was killed in a fierce fight against the French colonists in southern Vietnam in February 1946. Following his example, both of her sons, martyrs Nguyen Van Den and Nguyen Van Giang, volunteered to join the army during the resistance war against the American imperialists. They laid down their lives for the independence of the Fatherland.

Standing before three certificates honoring fallen heroes, Vietnamese Heroic Mother Nguyen Thi Mui was deeply moved and whispered to her husband and two patriotic sons: “What still troubles me is that even now I don’t know where the remains of my husband and sons are. When I was healthy, I visited many cemeteries such as Long Khanh, Ba Ria…, but I couldn’t find them…”

Similarly, Vietnamese Heroic Mother Tran Thi Bay, residing in Bom Bo Commune, was deeply moved when the provincial delegation visited her and presented gifts on the War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27) in 2025. Her husband, martyr Tran Van Khai, was killed in 1968, during the fierce period of the resistance war against the American imperialists. Following in the footsteps of his heroic father, martyr Tran Van Cua fell for the independence of the Fatherland in 1970.

“When the delegation visits me, my heart overflows with emotion, as if I am welcoming my beloved husband and son back to me amidst the peace and independence of the Fatherland,” - Vietnamese Heroic Mother Tran Thi Bay emotionally expressed.

Efforts underway to ensure a warm spring for revolutionary contributors

At a recent meeting with provincial departments and sectors, comrade Le Truong Son, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that the work of caring for the people during Tet, especially the policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors, needs to be improved. After the merger, the number of policy beneficiary families and people with meritorious services increased, so the statistical review must be more thorough to avoid missing any cases. He assigned the Department of Home Affairs to coordinate with relevant agencies to advise the provincial leadership on organizing delegations to visit, present gifts, and offer Tet greetings and encouragement to policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors in the province.

According to Doan Thi Thu Thuy, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Home Affairs, the department currently manages more than 85,000 files related to revolutionary contributors and their relatives. This includes over 3,700 individuals receiving monthly allowances and 24 living Vietnamese Heroic Mothers. In 2025, the department handled more than 2,000 cases of new recognition, relocation, and deaths; supported the construction or repair of nine houses for beneficiaries with total funding exceeding VND 300 million. The department also organized multiple visits, gift-giving, and other practical activities.

Along with practical activities to care for revolutionary contributors during Tet, the Department of Home Affairs has advised the province to establish 10 delegations led by provincial leaders to visit and present gifts to the revolutionary contributors across the province. These include Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, severely wounded or ill veterans, and revolutionary activists imprisoned by the enemy...

In 2025, the Department of Home Affairs reviewed and coordinated with relevant agencies to distribute benefits to over 85,000 individuals, with a budget of hundreds of billions of VND; the cashless payment rate reached nearly 80%. Consequently, 100% of revolutionary contributors in the province received proper attention, gratitude, and care, ensuring no eligible person was left behind,” emphasized Deputy Director Doan Thi Thu Thuy.

Deputy Director Doan Thi Thu Thuy added: The Department has compiled statistics and submitted budget estimates for over 22,000 revolutionary contributors to receive gifts from the President, pursuant to Decision No. 01/QD-CTN dated January 5, 2026, on giving Tet gifts for the revolutionary contributors on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026. Among them, 350 individuals received a gift worth 600,000 VND each, while the remainder received a gift worth 300,000 VND per person. The Department also compiled the list and issued the Approval Decision for the gift distribution list under Decision No. 01/QD-CTN, enabling communes and wards to complete payments before January 31, 2026.

Simultaneously, the Department advised on Tet gift distribution according to Resolution No. 26/2025/NQ-HDND dated December 10, 2025, by the Provincial People's Council regarding gifts for the revolutionary contributors within the province. It is projected that over 32,400 individuals will receive various gift levels, with a total implementation budget of over 37.7 billion VND. The Department is currently finalizing the list and issuing the Approval Decision under Resolution No. 26/2025/NQ-HDND for local implementation, aimed for completion before February 9, 2026.

Furthermore, the Department advised the province on organizing tribute-paying, memorial, and burial ceremonies for recently recovered martyrs' remains, as well as incense-offering ceremonies to commemorate heroic martyrs on the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 – 2026) and to welcome the 2026 Spring Festival...
