The Vietnamese National Day holiday from August 30 to September 2 saw a sharp increase in traffic volume, placing significant pressure on Dong Nai's transportation system. Thanks to the proactive and coordinated efforts of authorities at all levels, traffic across the province remained stable, with no serious congestion or major traffic accidents recorded, helping ensure a safe and smooth holiday for residents.

Proactive and coordinated measures

According to the provincial Traffic Safety Committee, in late August 2025, the Dong Nai People's Committee issued a detailed plan assigning specific responsibilities to each department, sector, and locality. The plan focused on three key areas: violation control, ensuring transport infrastructure and service quality, and strengthening public communication and education.

Tran Trong Thuy, Head of the Traffic Police Division under the Dong Nai Provincial Police, said the traffic police force across the province was reinforced and deployed along national highways, expressways, entertainment venues, tourist sites, and at bus and ferry terminals. Numerous mobile patrol units operated continuously, strictly handling violations related to speeding, alcohol concentration, overloading of passengers or cargo, and illegal parking. Thanks to these rigorous measures, during the four-day holiday, there were no incidents of illicit street racing or public disorder.

The Department of Construction coordinated with road management units to inspect and repair damaged road surfaces, upgrade traffic signage, and address accident-prone "black spots." Ahead of the holiday, all construction works on national highways and expressways were suspended, cleared, and the roadways returned to traffic use. On major expressways such as Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay and Phan Thiet – Dau Giay, the Vietnam Expressway Services Engineering Joint Stock Company assigned staff on duty around the clock, installed additional warning signs, and promptly responded to any incidents.

In the transport sector, businesses were strictly prohibited from arbitrarily increasing ticket prices and required to comply with safety and service quality regulations. At bus and ferry terminals, authorities carried out strict inspections and suspended unqualified vehicles. For railways, operators strengthened inspections of warning systems at level crossings, reminded barrier staff to remain on strict duty, and ensured safe train operations.

At the same time, traffic law propaganda and education were reinforced. Dong Nai Newspaper, Radio and Television continuously promoted messages such as: "No driving after drinking alcohol", "Wear standard helmets", "Wear life jackets when taking ferries". This undertaking was implemented through news, reports, and features on four platforms (print, radio, television, and online newspaper) and spread on the social media channels of Dong Nai Newspaper, Radio, and Television.

By the end of August 2025, the Department of Construction required transport businesses to disseminate and instruct drivers and staff on counter-terrorism, trade fraud prevention, and prohibited goods transport. Companies were tasked with reminding drivers to strictly comply with traffic safety regulations and fire and explosion prevention. Those violating these regulations were strictly suspended to ensure absolute safety on all routes.

Safe traffic

During the 4-day holiday, traffic volume rose significantly compared to normal days, especially on national highways 1, 13, 14, 20, 51, and 56. At certain times, local congestion occurred on the morning of 30-8 (from Dong Nai to other provinces and cities) and in the afternoon of 2-9 (in the opposite direction). Yet, authorities promptly regulated and cleared traffic, preventing prolonged jams.

Notably, thanks to maximum staffing mobilization, the TPD promptly detected and rectified incidents and violations, helping ensure road safety during the Vietnamese National Day holiday.

For example, on the evening of August 29, at Km1792+500 of National Highway 1, passing through Xuan Hoa Commune (Dong Nai Province), traffic police discovered a 24-seat passenger bus driven by D.T.C. carrying 46 passengers, nearly twice the permitted capacity. That same evening, at Km903 of National Highway 14, passing through Tho Son Commune (Dong Nai Province), a truck driven by D.V.H. transporting approximately 18 tons of cashew shells from Lam Dong Province to Bu Dang Commune (Dong Nai Province) suffered a mechanical failure when its left container door burst open, spilling about 3 tons of cashew shells across the roadway. Both incidents were promptly detected and handled by authorities, preventing any unfortunate consequences.

As a result, during the 2025 Vietnamese National Day holiday in Dong Nai, traffic safety achieved remarkable results: no particularly serious accidents, no prolonged congestion on key routes, no illegal street racing or public disorder, passenger transport strictly controlled, and medical and rescue teams on duty 24/24.

The provincial People's Committee assessed that traffic safety efforts during the September 2 National Day holiday in Dong Nai were highly effective. This outcome reflects the strong commitment of members of the provincial Traffic Safety Committee, the close coordination among departments, sectors, and localities, and the sense of responsibility demonstrated by relevant enforcement forces.
