Long Thanh Airport is a national key project currently under construction in the province. The project not only aims to drive breakthrough development for the entire country, the Southern Key Economic Region, and the Southeast region as a whole, but is also expected to serve as a major catalyst for Dong Nai’s growth in particular.
Connecting the province’s central driving force for development
With the goal of spreading the development momentum of Long Thanh Airport to localities across the province, Dong Nai has planned and implemented projects to upgrade and expand Provincial Roads 769 and 773, as well as invest in the construction of the new Provincial Road 770B. These routes are designed to serve the needs of connecting localities in the province with Long Thanh Airport.
Nguyen Linh, Deputy Director of the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, said that in recent times, the unit has coordinated with functional agencies and localities to carry out investment preparation work for these projects.
According to the Provincial People’s Committee, the total investment for the projects to upgrade, expand, and construct Provincial Roads 769, 773, and 770B exceeds 18 trillion VND.
According to the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, among the three projects mentioned above, the project for upgrading and expanding Provincial Road 769 has had its feasibility study report approved by the Provincial People’s Committee. In May 2025, the Provincial People’s Committee issued a decision approving the contractor selection plan for consultancy services to carry out the construction design following the basic design stage of the project. The Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board is currently organizing the contractor selection process for the preparation of the detailed design following the basic design.
The Provincial Road 769 upgrade and expansion project spans nearly 30 kilometers, beginning at its junction with National Highway 1 at Dau Giay Intersection in Dau Giay commune and ending at its junction with National Highway 51 at Loc An Intersection in Long Thanh commune, Dong Nai province.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Road 773 upgrade and expansion project spans more than 39 kilometers. In its completed phase, it will have 6 to 8 lanes and pass through the communes of Xuan Que, Xuan Duong, Xuan Phu, Xuan Dong, Xuan Loc, Xuan Hoa, and Cam My (Dong Nai province).
The Provincial Road 770B construction investment project has a total length of over 42 kilometers, running through nine communes and wards in the province.
As for the Provincial Road 773 upgrade and expansion project and the Provincial Road 770B construction project, their appraisals have been completed by the Department of Construction Investment Management, formerly under the Ministry of Transport and now part of the Ministry of Construction.
Safeguarding development advantages
Recently, during an unannounced inspection of the Long Thanh Airport Project construction site, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that the target of substantially completing the project before December 19, 2025, and putting it into commercial operation in the first half of 2026, as requested by the Prime Minister, remains unchanged.
Thus, the timeframe for Dong Nai to complete investment in transport infrastructure projects connecting to Long Thanh Airport is running out. Vo Tan Duc, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Dong Nai People’s Committee, assessed that the implementation of the projects to upgrade, expand, and construct Provincial Roads 769, 773, and 770B has been slow. These projects serve as key drivers, linking localities to Long Thanh Airport to leverage the project’s potential and strengths thoroughly, and therefore need to be accelerated.
In reality, the implementation of investment procedures for these projects has faced certain difficulties and obstacles related to land and planning. To date, most of these issues have been basically resolved.
At a working session on September 4 regarding the progress of key projects in the province, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, and Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Council, Ton Ngoc Hanh, requested that functional agencies adopt comprehensive solutions to accelerate the progress of projects, including traffic projects connecting to Long Thanh Airport to serve the province’s development needs. “If Long Thanh Airport goes into operation while the connecting roads are not yet completed, the province will lose its development advantage” - emphasized Ton Ngoc Hanh.
