The “Clean up the world” campaign is an initiative launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in 1993. To date, it has expanded to over 180 countries, engaging hundreds of millions of participants, with the goal of encouraging communities to unite for a green, clean, and safe living environment. Vietnam officially joined the campaign in 1994 and has implemented it annually during the third week of September, featuring meaningful activities such as tree planting, waste collection, combating plastic waste, protecting ecosystems, and responding to climate change.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the Dong Nai provincial Youth Union Nguyen Tran Phuong Ha affirmed that, under the project titled “Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Dong Nai Province Participates in Environmental Protection and Climate Change Response”, the Standing Committee of the provincial Youth Union has recently directed all levels of the organization, from the provincial level down to grassroots units, to intensify efforts in organizing activities focused on environmental protection, tree planting, reforestation, ecological landscape improvement, and climate change adaptation.
Through these movements and initiatives, the campaign has contributed to addressing local environmental pollution issues while also promoting awareness among Youth Union members, young people, and the broader community to integrate environmental criteria into the development of advanced new-style rural areas and civilized urban areas.
In particular, in response to the movement “For a green Vietnam” and the project “Planting one billion trees in the 2021-2025 period” in Dong Nai province, hundreds of thousands of trees have been newly planted and cared for in vacant lands, bare hills, rapidly urbanizing areas, industrial zones, schools, and military units. This initiative has contributed to a total of more than 25 million newly planted trees across the province, exceeding the project’s target of 20 million trees.
