The Vietnamese Golf Association in Japan (VGAJ) and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan recently co-ordinated to organise the 2022 Momiji Open golf tournament at Katsuura Golf Club in Chiba Prefecture in the east of Tokyo.

The golf tournament attracted the participation of approximately 100 Vietnamese golfers and Japanese guests.

Phan Trung Hieu, president of the VGAJ, revealed that following the COVID-19 pandemic, a wide range of activities initiated by the Vietnamese community in Japan have resumed, including the 2022 Momiji Open.

This represents the largest golf tournament ever organised by the VGAJ in terms of the number of golfers and the prize on offer, Hieu said, adding that the event will greatly contribute to promoting the sport among the Vietnamese community residing in Japan.

VGAJ was first established in 2019 with the aim of creating a healthy sports playground for Vietnamese people in Japan, while simultaneously strengthening connectivity in order to form a stronger Vietnamese community.

Less than a year after its establishment, VGAJ attracted many Vietnamese golfers in the Kanto region and organised the first tournament. Until early April, the association has had nearly 100 members, representing a five-time rise compared to when it was first set up.
