The decisions were made based on rankings and suggestions from travel websites and the country’s guidebook publishers. This year’s list included five names; Vietnam was the only Asian representative.
According to The Star, there has never been a better time to visit Vietnam than 2015 since the country has declared the year as its national year of tourism. Special events and shows for tourists will be held at the country's monuments and cultural heritage sites, such as the imperial fortress of Thang Long, it said.
It also suggested holiday-makers visit Da Nang central city, which topped Tripadvisor's list of the best destinations of 2015. With its Buddhist sanctuaries and beautiful beaches, the destination is winning over more and more members of the website's travel community, it claimed.
The other four destinations are the African country of Republic of Namibia; the two Central American nations of Panama and Nicaragua, which shared the third place; the Baltic nation of Lithuania; and Belgium’s Mons city, which has been named the European Capital of Culture for 2015.
