The beach in Can Gio is not highly recommended for swimming as there is a lot of mud caused by the mangrove forests. However, visitors can leisurely walk or take a boat ride to enjoy fresh sea breeze. Travelers are advised to visit Can Gio in mid-September to explore Nghinh Ong (whale worshiping) Festival which was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage last year. In the event, participants can experience a colorful cultural festival in which local fishermen honor whales that they believe protect them in the high seas.
