This national park is one of the newest in Vietnam as it was established in 1999. The park offers forested mountains and fertile valleys. As with most treks you will start it off in a 4 wheel drive vehicle which will carry the party and all of the provisions required. Once you reach the Van Mai village on the banks of the Ma river, you will transfer to a boat which will take you to the next village where your trek begins. Along the route you will stay at houses and facilities of the local people and get to experience a wonderful side to the country. There is a range of different terrains you will be going through so you do need to make sure that you are prepared for any weather condition. Wet feet are most likely only a matter of time away! You will get to see terraced rice paddies, streams, mountains and some awe inspiring views along the way so you should make sure you bring a spare battery and memory card for your camera as you wouldn’t want to miss capturing the beauty of one of the best trekking in Vietnam.

Cao Bang is located in the province which borders China and is a very mountainous area. The landscape here doesn’t quite look like anything else you can see in Vietnam. When you go trekking in this area you will most likely be coming to Ba Be National Park so you can take in Vietnams only mountains lake. The terrain here can be quite rugged with the surrounding Limestone Mountains. Forests cling to the mountains to provide a lush backdrop and this area is home to over 330 species of butterfly. A visit to Ban Gioc waterfall is usually also high on people’s agendas to visit, with its clear waters cascading down the waterfall, it makes for a very picturesque setting. You can usually tailor a trek to your own chosen itinerary going for as few or as many days as you wish, it all depends on how much you want to see and experience?

Cuc Phuong is Vietnam’s oldest national park and has a bio diverse rich environment. The national park was set up in 1962 and works to protect the local ecology and maintain it for generations to come. The national park runs treks and you can hire a bike and visit the villages in the local area and use the home stay facilities where you will stay with a local family. If you are into animals then this is the place for you, it is abundant with amphibians, birds, reptiles and insects. There are also plenty of elusive animals which come out at night which you can take a tour of. You will go with a guide and find the wildlife in its natural habitat. There is Loris, Samba Deer, Black Giant Squirrel, Flying Squirrel and also several small carnivores as well. Do not worry though as you will be perfectly fine and in no danger, as long as you follow the guide’s instructions. There are also a couple of lakes here, Yen Quang and Mac Lake, where you can go kayaking and do some exploring.

Nam Cat Tien

Na Cat Tien is only 100 km north east of Ho Chi Minh City and covers an area of around 74,000 Hectares making it one of the biggest national parks in Vietnam. There is accommodation at the park and you can also book and arrange trekking tours here as well. Like with the best trekking in Vietnam as above, there is an abundance of wildlife set in a tropical and deciduous jungle. There is plenty of birds to watch here including the Osprey, Grey headed Fishing Eagle and the Crested Serpent Eagle as well. Tigers, Leopards and Clouded Leopards have all been spotted at the park, as well as Bears, Buffalos and lots of other wildlife. There is also a night safari offered here which is a good way to see the nocturnal and shyer species which are native to the area. With the volcanic hills and bamboo forests, where ever you decide to go trekking, there is plenty to see and do in Vietnam and trekking is great way to see a different side to the country and also its wonderful people.
