Japanese park opens in Ho Chi Minh City

Tung Son Thach Park (Rin Rin Park), a Japanese-style garden in Ho Chi Minh City, was officially inaugurated on March 2 with the hope of promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

Covering an area of 20,000 square metres in Xuan Thoi Dong Commune, Hoc Mon District, the park is the first of its kind in Vietnam. Many Japanese art forms, like Bonsai and stone sculptures, are on displayed there. All the trees, rocks and fish around the park have been brought from Japan.

The park was built by an overseas Vietnamese who has lived in Japan for more than 30 years.

According to La Quoc Khanh, deputy director of the Municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism La Quoc Khanh, the opening of the park contributes to diversifying the city’s tourism products.

The city has set a 2014 target of 4.4 million foreign visitors, earning VND94 trillion (US$4.4 billion) from tourism activities.

Last year, there were more than 4.1 million foreign tourists, generating revenue of VND81.97 trillion (US$3.85 billion).
