The 'Crossing the Northwest - Son La 2011' tourism festival was launched on August 27 in Moc Chau district, Son La province.
The opening ceremony was attended by Party Central Committee member, Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs, Giang Seo Phu, and Secretary of the Son La provincial Party Committee, Thao Xuan Sung.
The programme features a wide range of cultural and sporting events including a film week with documentaries about the Northwest region; a seminar on promoting regional tourism, an ethnic minorities sports competition and photography exhibitions on Son La province's economic and cultural achievements.
The festival involves the eight northwestern provinces of Lao Cai, Son La, Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Lai Chau and Hoa Binh.
The event, which will run through September 2, aims to promote tourism and the beautiful landscape as well as the cultural identities of Son La province and the northwest region.
