Ha Thi Thuy (48 years old) is facing immense suffering as she has lacrimal gland cancer that has metastasized to the salivary gland. To afford six rounds of chemotherapy, she had to sell her house, land, and all belongings in the Tien Hung 2 quarter, Binh Phuoc ward. Afterwards, the family moved to take shelter in a makeshift hut and lived on hired garden-keeping work.

In 2019, after her marriage broke down, she became a single mother raising six young children on her own and had to move into a makeshift hut in Dong Tam commune. Misfortune continued to follow her, and in 2021, she was injured in an accident that resulted in bone fractures, and her debt mounted to over 120 million VND.

When her family was falling into despair with no way out, the program “Sharing the pain” arrived in time, like a miracle that held onto the life of an exhausted mother and became the last chance for the children to keep their dreams of attending school alive.

“We always believe that compassion is the firm bridge that helps difficult lives overcome storms. When we spread this flame of love together, we will build a future where everyone has hope, and no one is left alone,” said Nguyen Thi Lien, Chairwoman of Dong Nai Provincial Association for the Support of People with Disabilities, Orphans and Poor Patients.

At the program, sponsors, clubs, groups, charitable teams, and benefactors donated more than 119 million VND to Thuy’s family. The amount was allocated by the organizing committee as follows: 10 million VND for Thuy’s medical re-examination, 100 million VND placed in a one-month term savings account for long-term treatment, and the remaining amount used for the family’s daily expenses.

Thuy tried to hold back her emotions, but tears still streamed down her face: “I once screamed silently in pain, in helplessness as illness stole my health, and in fear as I watched my young children left with no one to rely on... Today, thanks to the program and the loving arms of benefactors, I have money for treatment, I have faith to go on living, and my children have a chance to hold on to their education, to hold on to their future.”
