In recent times, the trend of consuming DIY products has become increasingly popular. DIY, short for "do it yourself", refers to creating or repairing a product independently, relying on one's own creativity.

In Dong Nai, especially in major urban areas, the DIY consumption trend is drawing increasing interest from customers, particularly young people.
From practical items to handmade creations with personal flair
The DIY trend has extended across numerous sectors and product categories. Consumers are increasingly eager to personally enhance their living and working spaces, ranging from home decoration and workspace makeovers to personal care, fashion, household repairs, and even food preparation, cooking, and baking at home.
As a result, stores offering DIY materials and products have become increasingly diverse, ranging from supermarkets and shopping centers to fixed-price and specialty shops that provide a wide variety of convenient, competitively priced products catering to different customer segments.
Nguyen Duong The Kiet, Manager of Kohnan Japan (Bien Hoa) in Tam Hiep ward, Dong Nai province, said: "DIY products are one of the core strengths and unique features of Kohnan Supermarket. We offer a wide range of DIY items, including hand tools, drills, grinders, assembly materials, electrical equipment, raw wood, paints, adhesives, screws, and home decor accessories."
The DIY product consumption trend continues to grow, meeting the demand for creativity and personalization, while also helping to reduce costs, build skills, and foster perseverance. In addition, the widespread use of social media and digital platforms that share instructional videos has further exposed young people to methods for making and designing handmade products, as well as to approaches and ideas for DIY-inspired creations.
Le Van Chuong, a resident of Tran Bien ward, Dong Nai province, said he enjoys planting and taking care of his home garden. In the past, he had to search across various channels, such as online stores and traditional markets, for seedlings and gardening tools. Recently, however, with the appearance of specialized DIY stores in supermarkets and shopping centers in Tran Bien, Tam Hiep, and Long Binh, he has been delighted to find a wide variety of products he needs, including many fixed-price items and unique materials available only at dedicated DIY stores.
"Finding the products I need for my gardening hobby helps me unwind after work. I also noticed these stores also carry items for fishing, pet care, home decoration, and cooking, covering most of the needs of modern consumers. What's more, the prices are quite reasonable and the selection is diverse," Chuong shared.
Creating and crafting DIY products has become a growing trend on social media. Capitalizing on this trend, many shop owners specializing in handmade and DIY materials have launched stores on e-commerce platforms and social media to meet consumer demand.
Growing interest among young people
DIY products are attracting increasing attention from consumers, especially young people. These products are highly diverse in type, design, and price, ranging from tools and decorative items for homes and gardens to pre-assembled or pre-shaped products, household goods, kitchenware, and baking supplies. Stores and supermarkets specializing in DIY materials and tools have become more widespread, giving consumers a variety of options and the freedom to express their creativity by making, decorating, and tending to their home gardens.
Materials for handmade and DIY products are usually inexpensive and often crafted by hand. With creativity, manual skill, and a good sense of aesthetics, anyone can produce eye-catching items that appeal to young people.
Nguyen Duong The Kiet added: "The customer base interested in DIY products is becoming increasingly younger. Many young people and families enjoy making their own decorative items or redesigning their living spaces. Recently, sales of DIY products have grown steadily, especially on weekends or during the summer, when demand for creativity and home improvement tends to rise."
Similarly, Le Duc Thuan, Director of Lotte Mart Dong Nai in Long Binh ward, Dong Nai province, said the supermarket now features a dedicated section for DIY products, tools, materials, gardening items, and cooking supplies. This section is drawing increasing interest from consumers, offering convenience, affordable prices, and a diverse range of products to meet customer needs, especially among young people.
