Promoting livestock product traceability in line with digital transformation

(ĐN) - On August 6, the Department of Agriculture and Environment held a working session with the Ho Chi Minh City High Technology Association and relevant departments and sectors to discuss solutions for pork traceability and the development of linkage chains in agricultural development in Dong Nai Province.

Since 2019, Dong Nai Province has implemented two projects: a livestock and poultry farm management project and a traceability project for essential animal-based food products within the province. As of the end of June 2025, a total of 1,224 individuals and organizations - including supermarkets, convenience stores, markets, slaughterhouses, traders, livestock farms, and industrial zone canteens - had registered to participate in pork traceability and were issued user accounts. By that time, a cumulative total of 129,747 pigs had been traced across the province, reaching 9.4% of the project's target.

Although the results are still limited, the projects above have established a model for managing, identifying, and tracing the origin of pork products in the province through the application of information technology.

At the working session, several suggestions were made to enhance the effectiveness of pork and livestock product traceability in connection with the development of value chains. Key recommendations included: conducting a detailed assessment of the results achieved as a basis for continuing the project into its next phase,  establishing a provincial livestock database integrated with the national system, and placing greater emphasis on training and technology transfer.
