Nguyen Thi Cai’s family is among the most disadvantaged, now pushed into extreme hardship by serious illness. Both Cai and her husband, Le Minh Thanh (59), were formerly seasonal workers with unstable incomes. Their only daughter, Le Thi Kim Thoa (37), is a single mother raising her 7-year-old son, Le Nguyen Truong Giang. In 2020, Thoa was diagnosed with heart failure and chronic kidney disease, requiring dialysis treatment three times a week. She is now in very poor health.

In May 2025, Thanh was diagnosed with colon cancer and requires radiotherapy but with no means to pay for treatment, he has had to endure the pain at home. The family’s burden now rests entirely on Cai’s shoulders, forcing her to take on multiple jobs such as cleaning factories and collecting recyclable materials to cover medical costs and care for her grandson.

At a very moment when the family was sinking into despair, the “Share the Pain” program arrived in time as a bridge connecting compassionate hearts.

“We firmly believe that with community support, every struggling family can see a ray of hope for a brighter tomorrow. Compassion is the flame that will spread, ensuring no one is left behind,” said Nguyen Thi Lien, Chairwoman of SADOPP.

During the program, representatives from charitable clubs, volunteer groups, and donors contributed more than VND 133 million to Cai’s family. Of this, over VND 33 million will be used to cover medical expenses for Thanh and Thoa. The remaining VND 100 million will be placed in a savings account under Cai’s name, managed by local authorities, to ensure long-term medical treatment for the family and support Giang’s education.

“For years, I have been exhausted, not from hard labor, but from the constant fear that one day my husband or daughter would pass away, leaving me alone with my orphaned grandson. Today feels like a dream in the middle of real life. I am truly grateful to the benefactors who have supported me both materially and spiritually. This money has come just in time to pay for medicine and help keep my husband and daughter by my side for longer,” Cai shared with emotion at the event.
