(ĐN)- Dong Nai still has 399 poor and near-poor households and 137 policy beneficiary families in need of housing support. The government and the province have set the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for the poor in 2025, striving to ensure that policy beneficiary families and those with meritorious services have decent housing and a living standard above average by April 30, 2025.
First Tet in a New Home
This Lunar New Year, nearly 400 poor, near-poor, and policy beneficiary families in Dong Nai will celebrate Tet in their newly built, solid homes. The province is racing against time to achieve the goal of eradicating substandard housing.
Compared to 2024, the number of families celebrating Tet in a new home has increased by nearly 100. Dong Nai has mobilized various resources, applying the "three-in-place" model: initial sponsorship, family contributions, and community support. As a result, each house costs at least VND 100 million, with some reaching nearly VND 250 million, exceeding the province’s standard support of VND 80 million per house.
2024 also saw the highest international support for housing projects in recent years. Organizations such as the Korea Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, Korean businesses in Dong Nai, and Habitat for Humanity International contributed to building and renovating homes.
Addressing Challenges and Mobilizing Resources
Currently, only 536 cases still require housing support. However, the province continues updating the list to ensure no one in need is overlooked. Some families face challenges such as lacking land or owning land that does not meet construction regulations. Relevant departments are tasked with categorizing cases and ensuring compliance with legal procedures.
Funding for housing construction, especially for policy beneficiary families, relies primarily on the provincial budget and policies. Authorities are working on financial solutions and mobilizing additional resources. The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) will continue to raise public awareness and encourage community participation, while also engaging international donors to support housing construction for those in need.
