Dong Nai has set a target to build 10,000 low-cost houses by 2025, said a local official.

A government working group led by Construction Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi last week had a meeting with the Dong Nai People’s Committee on the provincial socio-economic situation, including measures on the real estate market development.

At the meeting, Nguyen Hong Linh, Dong Nai's Party Secretary, said that over the past 30 years, Dong Nai received 1.2 migrants. Among those, 600,000 workers were living in rented houses. The province is home to 31 industrial parks with 410,000 workers.

However, in the 2016-20 period, the province built only about 3,500 social housing units, including just 1,600 for workers.

To ease the social housing shortage, the province has aimed to build 10,000 social housing units by the end of 2025. It would have 30,000 units in the years later.

According to Minister Nghi, the ministry would collect the province’s proposals for its social-economic development for submission to the government.
