Work on the airport is being quickened. The dust from the site has severely affected neighbouring areas. Many houses in the Loc An-Binh Son resettlement area around two kilometres from the airport have been blanketed by dust.
Every day, around 60 tanker trucks, including two fire trucks, spray 10,000 cubic metres of water on the site, said Do Tat Binh, deputy director of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV). Contractors have built 10 reservoirs to ensure enough water to spray the entire construction site.
Stone is also used to cover roads on the site to reduce the dust brought about by vehicles transporting building materials in and out of the project.
Covering a total area of more than 5,580 hectares in Dong Nai Province's Long Thanh District, the airport has a total investment of VND336.63 trillion (USD14.26 billion). It is designed to serve 100 million passengers and five million tonnes of cargo annually. The project is divided into three phases.
Starting in 2021, the project's first phase will focus on building a runway and passenger terminal along with other support facilities for USD4.7 billion. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2025.
