(ĐN) – Dong Nai Women Union launched a program on May 28 to call for assistance to local orphans.

The program aims to mobilize organizations, businesses and individuals to join hands to take care of and support the orphaned children due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other causes until the age of 18 in a sustainable way so that they can overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives soon, ensuring conditions for them to develop comprehensively and become useful people in society.

Addressing at the event, Vice Chairwoman Bui Thi Hanh said that the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam has killed more than 31,000 people. Many children had lost their parents, mothers, fathers or caregivers due to the pandemic.

As of May 27, the Union and its agency mobilized organizations and individuals to support for 112 COVID-19-hit orphans until they are 18 years old.

At the event, Long Thanh Golf Investment and Trading Company’s representative handed over VND10 billion to support orphans at 10 districts and cities in 10 years.

On this occasion, the union provided reliefs to 58 children whose parents have died of COVID-19 in Bien Hoa city.

According to Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Dong Nai is now home to more than 350 orphans with difficult circumstances.
