The winners made electrical wheelchair from an unused one, put two engines into back wheels and designed new control set with two modes, including using joystick and control it by head leaning. It also uses solar panels for both storing energy for the wheelchair and using them as a lean-to for users.
This year competition brought together 180 students from six universities across Vietnam. As many as 35 projects were chosen for the finale, which was held at HCM city University of Technical Education.
The EPICS is an international award-winning social entrepreneurship program. Entries are designed to solve engineering-based problems for charities, schools and other not-for-profit organizations.
The annual event is co-hosted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the USA-based Arizona State University, the Dow Viet Nam STEM Programme, and some Viet Nam’s leading technology universities.
