Viet Nam recorded four more local COVID-19 cases Wednesday afternoon, all connected to known outbreaks, bringing the total caseload to 993.
Patient 990 is a 25-year-old female healthcare worker in Gia Dình General Hospital in the central city of Da Nang and the country's current hotspot. The patient is currently being treated at Hoa Vang field hospital.
Another case (Patient 992) from Đà Nẵng is also a healthcare worker – a 37-year-old woman working at Da Nang Hospital, as epidemiological investigation into her exposure to the virus is ongoing.
Patient 991 is a 34-year-old man from Cam Thanh Commune, Hoi An City, Quang Nam province in central Viet Nam. His wife is a confirmed COVID-19 case (Patient 981) who had undergone treatment at the Neurological Surgery faculty in Da Nang Hospital.
He is currently being quarantined and treated in Quang Nam General Hospital.
A 40-year-old woman from the northern province of Hai Duong was Viet Nam’s Patient 993 as she had close contact with previously confirmed patients 906 and 970, connected to the outbreak concerning a restaurant on Ngo Quyen Street in the city.
On August 14, the patient was sent to centralised quarantine in a campus of Hai Duong University.
A day later, she tested negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but later confirmatory tests by Hai Duong Centre for Disease Control and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology returned positive.
She is being treated at Hai Dương Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
These new cases pushed the number of infections related to the Da Nang outbreak to 513.
Also Wednesday, Viet Nam reported 13 recoveries from COVID-19, including five from Hue Central Hospital (Patients 452, 476, 481, 483, 507), two patients from Da Nang Lung Hospital (Patient 498 and 849), two from Hoa Vang District medical centre (Patient 695 and 762), and Patient 390 in Binh Sơn District, Quang Ngai Province.
Three other patients – in Đồng Nai, Ninh Bình and Nam Định provinces – have also been given the all-clear today.
The newest additions brought the total recoveries to 533, meaning that there are 460 active cases in Việt Nam.
A total of 81,585 people, who either returned from virus-hit areas or came into contact with known or suspected COVID-19 patients, are under quarantine across the country.
Earlier Wednesday, the health ministry reported one death of a former COVID-19 case (Patient 418) and included it in the official death count, but later today revised its stance given the patient had tested negative multiple times before his death.
The man was suffering from a number of underlying health issues – hypertension, diabetes, kidney failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The country’s COVID-19 related fatalities was kept at 25 Wednesday, with the first one reported on July 31.
