More than 1,000 trees were planted on about 20,000 square meters in a forest in Dong Nai province on July 13, the Gaia Nature Conservation Center said in a statement.
The event was implemented by about 100 staff and their families of Premier Oil Company, the Gaia Nature Conservation Center and the Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve.

This is part of the “Forest Plantation and Monitoring” community program initiated by Gaia in order to boost reforestation for timber, and food sources for wildlife, conserve one of the last populations of wild elephants in Vietnam, and improve biological diversity.
This reforestation program allows participants to research and monitor the development of the new forest in four years.
Participants have been instructed to take photos to monitor replanted trees and the forest, investigate animal and plant species, and measure tree height and forest coverage.
Data will be stored and analyzed in four consecutive years to assess the change of the forest and ensure its stable development.
The five forest tree species that were planted are huynh (palapi), mit rung (wild jackfruit), chom chom rung (wild rambutan), xoai rung (wild mango), and sau(dracontomelon duperreanum).
These are timber trees and food sources for wildlife that will help turn the poor forest into a richer one.
Reforestation creates a better habitat for all species, including people, said Do Thi Thanh Huyen, founder and director of the Gaia Nature Conservation Center, who has nearly 20 years’ experience in nature conservation in Vietnam.
