Four new cases of African swine fever (ASF) have been discovered in the southern province of Dong Nai, according to the provincial People’s Committee.

The infected areas were detected in the communes of Doi 61 and Binh Minh in Trang Bom district, as well as in Phuoc Thien and Phu Hoi communes in Nhon Trach district in the southern province of Dong Nai.

The outbreaks occurred in small households in the region.

Having discovered samples from pig farms that tested positive for the ASF virus, relevant units ensured that all infected pigs were culled in line with current regulations and disinfectants were sprayed in the contaminated pig farms and throughout neighbouring areas.

Local authorities have also moved to ban the slaughter of pigs at infected communes and set up 23 quarantine checkpoints around the locality in order to prevent the epidemic from spreading further.

To support pig-farming households cull any infected pigs, the provincial People’s Committee has decided to offer compensation ranging from VND300,000 to VND4.5 million on a case-by-case basis.

All impacted pig-farming households are expected to receive financial support to cull their pigs within the next 15 days.
