Traditional new year festivals of Laos, Cambodia marked in Dong Nai

(ĐN)- Nearly 100 Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian students joined in a get-together at Dong Nai University on April 7 to celebrate the Lao Bun Pi May festival and the Cambodian Chol Chnam Thmay festival.

The event was attended by Lao Consul General in HCM City Phimpha Keomixay and Cambodian Consul General in HCM City Im Hen.

Currently, there are some 84 Lao and Cambodian students studying at colleges and universities in Dong Nai.

Deputy Director Nguyen Viet Thang of Department of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the provincial leaders always pay attention to organising student exchange events, creating opportunities for students to better understand cultural tradition in each nation and the history of the friendship among the three countries.

Speaking at the event, Ms Phimpha Keomixay and Mr Im Hen UEL expressed their thanks to local leaders and universities for their support to create favourable conditions for the Lao and Cambodian students so that they can have good results at university, helping build sound solidarity and friendship among the three nations.

The Bunpimay and Chol Chnam Thmay festivals fall on April 14 to 16, with several ritual ceremonies praying for good weather, an abundant harvest and a prosperous New Year.
