Officials of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province met last week to discuss details about the Cat Lai bridge project, which will connect district 2 in HCM City to Nhon Trach district in Dong Nai province.
The project will be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval soon.
Earlier this year, the Government chose Dong Nai as the project leader. The province has proposed dividing the project into three sections.
The 4km long and 55m high Cat Lai Bridge will have six lanes for motor vehicles and two mixed lanes. It is expected to ease crowding on Cat Lai ferry and become a key link from HCM City to Dong Nai and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces.
In addition, when Long Thanh International Airport is completed, the bridge and the provincial highway No. 25C will connect HCM City and the new airport
The first section of the road, which is 623m long in district 2, leads to the bridge. The province has asked the Government to choose HCM City to be the leader of the work on the section.
The total investment of the first section is 755 billion VND (32.6 million USD), including 215 billion VND (9.2 million USD) for construction costs and 540 billion VND (23.3 million USD) for site clearance.
The second section, which is 263m long in Nhon Trach district, leads to the bridge. The province will be in charge of this section.
The total investment of this section is 410 billion VND (17.7 million USD) including 134 billion VND (5.7 million USD) for construction costs and 276 billion VND (11.9 million USD) for site clearance.
The provincial People's Committee will also be in charge of construction of the bridge with total investment of 4.9 trillion VND (211.6 million USD) in the form of build-operate-transfer (BOT).
Tran Vinh Tuyen, Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, said the city agreed with the proposed plan.
Tuyen said the city departments would study the investment form and closely monitor procedures and funding of the project.
