(ĐN)- On the occasion of the 2017 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3), Dong Nai Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs organized a conference to honor disabled persons who have overcome difficulties and hardship to lead a better life.
Among the honored, many are self-employed and create jobs for other disabled people.
Over the past time, the provincial authorities and non-governmental organizations have made many efforts to launched programs to provide the best support for local people with disabilities, including offer vocational training, regular allowances, functional rehabilitation, legal aid and health insurance coverage, helping them integrate into the community.
However, the rate of disabled people living in poverty remains high, the province is trying its best to boost social awareness about ensuring rights for handicapped people.
Dong Nai is now home to more than 25,300 disabled people, including 3,000 children. Of the total, more than 14,000 people could not work.
