Houses in the Trang Bom District of Dong Nai Province are at risk of collapsing after continuous heavy rainfall has destroyed their foundations.

For a month now, heavy rain has affected the sewerage systems of many houses in the Ho Nai 3 Commune and caused landslides that have weakened their foundations. Two houses have collapsed.

The house of Nguyen Thi Nga is one of those at risk of collapsing at any time. The back of the house has been severely damaged, with big holes and cracks on the walls.

Fear of living in such a fragile house, Nga sent her two children to live with their grandparents. She and her husband can’t sleep during rainy nights for fear that the house could collapse.

“Even though our family business has been doing so well since we started living on the side of National Route 1A, we’re considering moving soon,” Nga said.

Another resident, Bui Van Phu, is also worried about the situation. “We’ve done everything we can to prevent landslides each time it rains, but to no avail,” he said. “The authorities have inspected the area but haven’t come up with any particular solution.”

An official from the People’s Committee of the Trang Bom District said that the committee has investigated the situation, but since the landslide area is part of National Route 1A, it is the responsibility of the Road Management Branch 4.2 to take care of the issue.

The committee has requested the branch to fix a ditch system in Ho Nai 3 Commune so that rainwater can flow out and avoid land erosion, he added. But the implementation of such a task needs to be approved by the Road Management Department 4, he said.
