(ĐN)- Dong Nai Chapter of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha held a flower parade on May 9 to mark the 2,561st birth anniversary of Lord Buddha.
Hundreds of Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the province attended the parade, which is an annual event to mark one of the most important Buddhist anniversaries during a year.
Earlier, the Buddhist dignitaries and followers burnt incense at Tran Bien Temple of Literature and the province’s Martyrs Cemetery in commemoration of revolutionary soldiers who laid down their lives for national independence.
During the event, local pagodas have launched social welfare activities such as giving wheelchairs to people with disabilities, awarding scholarships for studious poor students, offering health insurance cards to needy persons, presenting gifts for blind, single elderly people and Vietnamese heroic mothers, building charity houses for poor households, etc.
On this occasion, Dong Nai provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, Fatherland Front Committee congratulated local Buddhists and hope that the provincial Buddhist Sangha, monks, nuns and followers will continue to promote Buddhist traditions, retain close links with the locality and make an active contribution to provincial construction and defence.
